AB - The social status of geography and geography education has declined in both Korea and Japan. But the Association of Japanese Geographers made efforts to promote that of geography. One of such efforts is qualification system about ‘regional surveyor’. The purpose of this study is to go through the system of ‘regional surveyor’ in the Japan, to find out whether we would use it in Korea. The qualification system of the regional surveyor is divided into regional surveyor and professional regional surveyor. And regional surveyor must complete required courses from The Association of Japanese Geographers, professional regional surveyor must get a doctorate or write a paper elaborated upon a doctorate. This system is geography to let society know, and it will be an instrument that geographers can interact directly with the society. Therefore, I think it is worthwhile to examine it enough this system in Korea.
