ABSTRACT

Historically, the square is usually the place that holds the most memorable events in the city. In this regard, the square can be understood as a sphere of public opinions. As Jürgen Habermas once pointed out, only a few upper class people were able to participate in the formation of public opinion in the past time, but today whoever can express and share his opinions in daily life with the development of the Internet. This study assumed blog's descriptions or evaluations of public square where public opinions are generated can be developed into microscopic discourses, because they are expressed from personal experiences or opinions and shared among people through Internet connection. Jeonju Pungnam-mun Square was built in 2012 for a marketing strategy of the city of Jeonju, and it became a place where the civic planned cultural events happened. However the blog contents related with square have become more diverse while square gets more popularity. I used search in search technique in Naver to categorize contents listed in terms of specific issues such as personal, historical, political, social, economic, and cultural. Even if the political or social assembly in the square happened not frequently, microscopic discourse that begins in the individual blog's article has enough potential to be developed into public discourse through the open debate or consensus. Ultimately, the public discourse formation is still expected through the public square with the interaction of microscopic discourse in the personal internet communication media such as blogs.
