AB - 本稿では女流自照文學作品に見られる物の怪の用例について、隨筆と日記に分けて考察してみた。平安時代に書かれた隨筆や日記の中に用例が見られるのは枕草子に六例、紫式部日記に六例、讚岐典侍日記に一例、蜻蛉日記に一例である。
女流隨筆の代表である枕草子の物の怪の用例の特徵と言えば、物の怪や物の怪につかれた人についての描寫よりは、その退治のため加持祈禱をする僧侶や修行者に對する話に焦點があるということである。物の怪の話をする時、物の怪自體より僧侶や修行者に焦點をあわせて描寫し、それについて批判しているのは他の作品では見られない枕草子だけの特徵である。
蜻蛉日記の場合は用例が一つしかないし、とても簡單な描寫で終わっているのでその特徵について言うのは難しいが、當時物の怪に對する認識や對處の仕方についてわかる貴重な資料としての役割を果たしている。讚岐典侍日記では、物の怪が堀河天皇の病氣と死に深い關わりを持って、實際正体をあらわせて登場したりもしているが、枕草子と紫式部日記などに比べれば、加持祈禱や修行者などに焦点があるわけでもなく、だいぶ物語に近い小說的な要素も加えられている。紫式部日記の場合は實際物の怪が登場して人々に亂暴をしたりする場面を目に見える狀況そのまま生き生きと書いており、平安時代に書かれた他の物語に見られるような小說的要素は一切見られない。しかし、紫式部は物の怪というものに强い印象を受け、大変執拗に物の怪という言葉を繰り返し使いながら描寫しており、紫式部の物の怪への深い興味を感じさせる。
