Japanese Colonial Education in Korea : Focus on the Korean Educational Ordinance during the Japanese Colonial Period This thesis examined the Korean education policy in the period of Japan's colonial rule of Korea centering on history. Also, this paper focused on the systematization of school at the law making process of the Korean Educational Ordinance in the Japanese colonial period and researched school change according to reorganization of the school system. From the first to fourth revision of the Korean Educational Ordinance, they were designed to make the Korean school system the same as the Japanese educational system. However,along with the enforcement of the third educational ordinance for Korea, Japan waged the Sino-Japanese War and pushed ahead with a series of policies to facilitate the unity of residents in their colonies and recruit soldiers. Japan was aware that education was mandatory for fortifying its colonial rule, and announced the revised educational ordinance for Korea in 1938 in light of wartime conditions. And fourth educational ordinance aimed at nurturing the loyal people of the Japanese emperor and attached importance to history education as means to have children realize their missions. According to the Korean Educational Ordinance in the Japanese colonial period which led to Korean, first, the textbooks demand that learners be dedicated to Japan and the Japanese emperor in return for his mercy on the ground that the emperor was the very nation. Second, at the same time, the textbooks advocated Japan's colonial rule of Korea on the ground that Korea and Japan shared same ideologies, and third, stressed the status of Japan in the world to have learners take pride in the nation. And the textbooks emphasized that learners should take the initiative in war of aggression as well.
