AB - Though there were many kinds of cosmetics used from ancient times in Korea and Japan, those cosmetic skins and creams existed as basic cosmetics to make much fairer skin was similar between two countries. And there were some similarities in the aspects of cosmetic skins and creams between two countries as follows; fundamentally each home directly made and used cosmetic skins and creams with raw materials which could be easily obtained in the neighborhood; each home used raw materials which could be easily obtained each season; each home used juices of grain, vegetables, herbs, fruits and others, and used those things which were pounded and mixed with other materials; each home mostly used plant materials to make cosmetic skins and creams. However, when the aspects of cosmetic skins and creams of contemporary Korea and Japan are generally examined, there were wide differences between them in points of manufacture, circulation and advertisement. Although the uses of cosmetic skins and creams and the raw materials used then were similar between them, Japan got ahead of Korea in the aspects of westernization and popularization of cosmetics. And Japanese cosmetic skins and creams influenced by the West were more diversified and westernized from the traditional cosmetics than Korea.
