ABSTRACT

This paper investigates the grammatical function of the Chinese attribute word "Zifa" labeled in The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary based on CCL corpus. It is found that there are different relations between the internal semantic structure of the modifier noun and the modifier predicate, and there are consistent internal semantic differences between the modifier predicate and the modifier noun. At present, The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary deals with single attribute words, but these words are facing difficulties in distinguishing from adverbs. The relationship between part of speech and syntax will be much simpler if this part of attributive predicate is treated as adverb. That is to say, all attributive words can only be used as attributive modifier nouns, or those that can only be used as attributive modifier nouns must be attributive words; all adverbs can only be used as adverbial modifier predicates, or those that can only be used as adverbial modifier predicates must be adverbs. If a word can only be used as attributive and adverbial, it is treated as attributive word and adverb.
