ABSTRACT

Objectives This study aimed to identify the current clinical domains of Sasang Constitutional Medicine (SCM) specialists through analysis of published clinical studies and hospital practice scopes. Methods Clinical studies published in the Journal of Sasang Constitution and Immunology Medicine up to 2025 (Vol. 37, No. 2) were reviewed, including case reports and retrospective or prospective studies. Diseases were categorized into six domains. In parallel, clinical fields listed on websites of university-affiliated Korean Medicine hospitals were analyzed using the same criteria. Results Among 1,333 papers, 321 were clinical studies. Major domains included cardiovascular neurological, endocrine metabolic, dermatologic, gastrointestinal, and neoplastic disorders. Common diseases were cancer-related symptoms, cerebrovascular disease, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes mellitus, and atopic dermatitis. At 13 university hospitals, 20 SCM professors mainly managed endocrine metabolic and cardiovascular neurological diseases. Frequently listed items were coldness syndrome, cancer, allergy, obesity, and metabolic syndrome. Conclusions This study suggests that the Scope of Practice of SCM specialists should be redefined around key Sasang-related conditions, and specialty renaming may be considered in response to changing clinical demands.
