ABSTRACT

This study analyzed the level and characteristics of astronomical thinking in elementary science according to the change of the curriculum based on previous studies on the learning and learning progressions in the field of astronomical thinking and astronomy. Based on the analysis results, it was proposed to explore astronomy-related topics among the Earth and space fields. Comparisons and analyses were conducted from the 2007 revised curriculum to the 2022 revised curriculum by astronomical topics covered in the Earth and space fields, and the level and characteristics of astronomical thinking according to the changes in each curriculum were identified. In addition, an inquiry by detailed subject in the astronomical field was proposed by reflecting the searched astronomical thinking-based learning progressions. The results of this study are as follows. First, compared with research on the learning development process in the astronomy field, it can be seen that the content level of elementary science in the 2022 revised curriculum was relatively lower than that of the 2007 and 2009 revised curriculum. Second, in the 2022 revised elementary curriculum, the exploration of astronomy-related topics was proposed focusing on students' practical observations. This study did not specifically suggest inquiry activities that could be directly described in textbooks. However, the purpose of this study is to provide content that can be implemented by including inquiry activities in the qualification textbook reflecting the 2022 revised elementary curriculum or the inquiry activity sheet when conducting classes in the actual school field.
