ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to develop and apply a maker education program using wood to find out its effectiveness. Although maker education using wood has various educational values, it has recently been developed mainly for maker education programs using 3D printers and physical computing tools, and the development of maker education programs using wood is required. To this end, A 6th class maker education program was developed according to the PDIE education program development model procedure. And implemented it for 110 third-year students of the middle school from November 1, 2021, to November 12, 2011. The maker education capability test tool was used to conduct a single-group pre–post test. The following results were obtained. First, the sixth maker education program of the TMSI Teaching Model enabled students to understand wood as a material, envision the product, and produce and evaluate their work in compliance with the “world of manufacturing technology” section of their curriculum. This flexible educational program could simplify various tasks of woodworking so that more students could learn and use these skills at school. Second, after implementing the maker education program for woodworking, students’ maker competency increased. Their overall maker capability increased significantly by 0.49 points, from 3.51 points to 4.00 points on average (t = −14.09, p = .000). The perception of maker education, occupational consciousness, curiosity, spirit to overcome challenges, and problem-solving abilities had all increased after the program.
