Founded in September 1972, Tourism Sciences Society of Korea (hereafter TOSOK) is the first tourism academic professionals’ organization of its kind in South Korea. Since its inauguration, it has been the largest gathering of tourism professionals from academia, government, and industry and currently has more than 800 active members. TOSOK has contributed to the advancement of the country’s tourism industry and policies through innovative research that has been conducted in cooperation with different levels of government and tourism industry associations. Journal of Tourism Sciences, the official journal of TOSOK, has been ranked as the top Korean journal in tourism, hospitality, and leisure studies. It is recognized by the National Research Foundation as the only registered journal of excellence among more than 10 such journals in the field. In addition to publishing academic journals, TOSOK has held international conferences 88 times as of 2020. And during the conferences, since 2009, tourism development and marketing idea contest for undergraduate and graduate tourism students has been held, fostering future tourism leaders. The mission of TOSOK is not limited here. It holds diverse seminars, forums, symposiums, and workshops in effort to resolve pending issues in tourism and to propose the pathway for the future of tourism in South Korea.
