ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study lies in discussing ways to develop the linguistic adaptation contents for North Korean refugees. The issue of inter-Korean language heterogeneity has been considered as the main factor preventing them from settling in South Korean society beyond communication, but practical education measures are still insufficient. Thus, this study has shed light on the linguistic adaptation contents development that enables self-learning considering learner’s circumstances. To this end, it examined the principles of contents development through the literature review on linguistic adaptation of North Korean refugees and in-depth interview with them from March 14 to July 1, 2018. In addition, it analyzed the videos and self-learning workbooks developed by B University. The contents are expected to reduce the refugees’ linguistic and cultural difficulties to some degree, but the needs for customized educational materials reflecting learners’ variables and motivations are also suggested. The failure to validate the contents would remains its limitation. However, this work has its meaning in that it has extracted educational contents and forms from the literature review and needs analysis, and illustrated the contents development through the case study.
