ABSTRACT

In a situation where the recent increase in the number of Uzbek international students in Korea is expected to continue to increase, this study analyzes the research trend of Korean language education targeting Uzbekistans, and based on the results, suggests the direction of follow-up research tasks. From 2000, when the study of Uzbek learners began for the first time, to April 2022, dissertations and journal papers related to the research field of Korean language education were collected and analyzed, and a total of 108 articles were analyzed. The analysis criteria of previous studies were referenced and classified into three perspectives. As a result of the analysis, the majority of theses were on ‘Korean education content’, followed by ‘teaching and learning’ related papers and ‘Korean education in general’ in that order. Since 2017, when the number of Uzbek Korean learners staying in Korea increased rapidly, studies on Korean language education related to Uzbek learners have also expanded significantly in quantity. In addition, 47% of the analysis papers written by researchers of Uzbekistan nationality were found to have mainly conducted research related to “Korean culture” and “vocabulary.” As a result of the analysis, it is believed that follow-up studies on learner teaching methods and learner error analysis are needed in the future.
