ABSTRACT

This study examines the current status of Korean language and multicultural programs offered by public libraries and proposes strategies to strengthen their role in promoting social integration. Based on case analyses, program contents are categorized into four areas: language education, cultural education, parental education, and employment/career education. The programs serve a wide age range from children to adults, demonstrating libraries’ efforts to support immigrants’ adaptation and settlement in Korean society. To enhance their integrative function, this paper suggests: developing library-specific models that avoid redundancy with related institutions; increasing immigrants’ active participation in programs; focusing on sustainable, library-centered initiatives such as reading education; improving user accessibility and familiarity; and identifying new programs aligned with local community needs.
