ABSTRACT

This study developed and implemented an art education program, grounded in the 2022 Revised Visual Arts Curriculum, to enhance self-esteem among twenty 5th- and 6th-grade elementary school students (boys and girls) from multicultural backgrounds. Using a one-group pretest–posttest survey design, the study examined the program’s effectiveness. The findings indicated that systematic art activities had a positive impact on students’ self-esteem, moving beyond both a narrow focus on basic skills instruction and the limitations of purely therapeutic approaches. These results suggest that curriculum-aligned art education programs can support students’ self-understanding and enrich their artistic experiences, thereby promoting academic achievement and strengthening key educational competencies, ultimately contributing to the enhancement of positive self-esteem among students with low self-esteem in multicultural settings.
