ABSTRACT

This study investigated the relationships among preparation for old age, aging anxiety, and life satisfaction in middle-aged multicultural couples. Using data from 2,281 migrant women and their Korean husbands (aged 40~64), the Actor Partner Interdependence Mediation Model was conducted. The results revealed the following: First, both the actor effects of preparation for old age on aging anxiety and aging anxiety on life satisfaction were significant for both wives and husbands. Second, wives’ preparation for old age influenced their husbands’ aging anxiety, and husbands’ aging anxiety influenced their wives’ life satisfaction. Finally, all actor effects of preparation for old age on life satisfaction, mediated by aging anxiety, were significant. In addition, a significant partner effect showed that wives’ preparation for old age influenced their husbands’ life satisfaction via their husbands’ aging anxiety. These findings highlight the need for support in old age preparation and aging anxiety for multicultural couples.
