This article the ways that the industrialization of Vietnam has influenced the formation of East Asian regional identity in Vietnam. For this purpose, first, I describe the international economic relationship between Vietnam and foreign countries before and after the reform policy called Doi Moi that conditioned the life of Vietnamese industrial workers. Second, I attempt to examine what and how the Vietnamese industrial workers have experienced everyday life under the given historical and political economic conditions. For the purpose, I describe ethnographically the experiences and consciousness of Vietnamese industrial workers in South Korean factories in Vietnam and South Korea. Third, based on the facts described previously, this article introspects the possibility, various facets, and fictitiousness of East Asian regional identity constructed for Vietnamese industrial workers.
