ABSTRACT

Dokdo dispute between Japan and Korea has been surfaced in Japan's strategical process of history education to deny practical governing of Korea, to make it a troubled part of the world, and then to appeal that to the international society, which just feed into all this character. As new guidebook of Social Studies in the Course of Study(社會科新學習指導要領 解說書) for middle school students published on July 15, 2008 states Dokdo as 'Japanese territory like the northern area, Dokdo has become a hot-button issue in Korea. The reason why Japan could be able to mention Dokdo in the above guidebook was because it was the best subject to make a hit for right wing power while not provoking China, which is different from or history textbook distort or Yasukuni issue. They has been already called ‘Dokdo’ as ‘Takesima’ in the textbooks before this Guidebook says that the textbook writers should write 'Takesima' in their new textbook. Troubled new guidebook of Social Studies in the Course of Study for middle school student treats with Dokdo in 'geography' of middle school 2nd grades, through which we see Japan is geographically approaching Dokdo. This elucidates that Korea must historically deal with Dokdo. If we approach Dokdo from the view of geography same as Japan, that would be fed into Japan. Therefore, Korea must emphasize Dokdo study a great deal from the historical view, although military, geographical, and international law studies are also important. Since reputation against evidence insisted by Japan with historical data to assert their sovereignty of Dokdo, works only with historical study.
