ABSTRACT

The frame refers to the associated encyclopedic knowledge frame required to grasp the meaning of a word (Fillmore, 1975, 1977), and the use of a specific word presupposes the related vocabulary simultaneous with the frame’s formation. Additionally, in framework semantics based on empirical semantics, which, in turn, are based on extensive encyclopedic knowledge, the various cultural variables expected to be projected into each language must be considered. This study aimed to discover characteristic cultural elements of Korea and Japan through the cooking culture-related Cooking_creation frame, which is a human cultural product and part of important human life history. Specifically, this study applied semantic network analysis, a representative text mining techniques, to compare and contrast “baked” and 焼く in Korean and Japanese, respectively, which are lexical units of the Cooking_creation frame. Consequently, we derived the implementation aspect of each language’s characteristic grilled cooking culture frame.
