ABSTRACT

The main purpose of this article is to re-imagine hospitality. The reason why we need to imagine hospitality in a different way is because of the limitations of the traditional model of hospitality. In this article, I will explain in detail why hospitality as a moral practice of meeting the needs of stranger without any expection for reward or return should not be imitated. However, hospitality is still neessary in our society. This article seeks to expound the relational openness, which is an essential characteristic of hospitality, and to find some ways to recover it. In doing so, I will suggest the notion of just hospitality that enables to recognize all participants as partners, not as either benefactors or beneficiaries, to argue that we all are responisble for constructing a just society.
