AB - To date, numerous writings and papers have been published on the issue of shrine worship, and a considerable amount of academic achievements on shrine worship have been accumulated. Based on the research results so far, this paper seeks to address the issue of refusal of shrine worship and withdrawal of educational projects by three schools in Pyongyang, namely Soongsil College, Soongsil School, and Soongui Girls’ School. In particular, this paper will focus on the differences in the positions of missionaries and Koreans that emerged during the closure of the three schools, and the conflict between Koreans related to School Closure. To this end, in Chapter 2, this paper will first look at existing studies on the shrine worship and the Choseon Mission’s initial response. Second, in Chapter 3, we will examine the differences in positions between missionaries and Koreans regarding the issue of shrine worship. Third, we will look at the emergence of management succession issues in the three schools and the tension and conflict between Koreans.
