ABSTRACT

This study examines 19th-century German antisemitism within the context of the transition to capitalism, tracing the logical structure through which contemporary intellectuals identified the dissolution of traditional values by modern capitalism with “Judentum”(Jewry). First, it analyzes the correlation between anti-Semitism and the critique of capitalism among conservative Romantics, while identifying the inherent antisemitic nature within the emancipatory logic of the Young Hegelians, including Bruno Bauer. In particular, focusing on Marx’s On the Jewish Question, this research argues that his rhetoric was a structural critique of the capitalist system rather than racial prejudice, while demonstrating that its ethical foundation paradoxically originated from pre-modern Christian morality. Ultimately, by reinterpreting the true intent of Marx’s discourse, this study seeks to provide a new perspective for reflecting on the “Jewish Question” in contemporary society.
