This study aims to analyze the needs of Uzbek students studying in South Korea for extracurricular programs and provide basic data for such programs.
The study first found that previous studies had no discussions about extracurricular programs targeting Uzbek students studying in South Korea. To establish a set of analysis criteria, the investigator analyzed discussions about extracurricular programs among international students studying in South Korea, identified "promotion of study," "instructions for employment," "cultural adjustment," "Korean study," and "adjustment to college," and divided them into five types including "promotion of information skills." The investigator conducted a survey with 69 students at B University in Busan, and the results were as follows: first, Uzbek students studying in South Korea lacked in the perception of extracurricular programs, but they showed a high willingness to participate in such programs; second, they had high demand for "cultural experiences" and "IT lectures" to communicate with Korean people and study in college; third, they had the highest demand for "study tutoring, "writing a resume and self-introduction," "experiences with Korean culture," "support for basic Korean learning," "freshmen orientation," and "software programs" under the detailed content of the five types of extracurricular programs; and finally, their need for "counseling" programs was low all among the five types.
Based on these findings, colleges and universities will need to develop various programs befitting the needs of Uzbek students studying in South Korea and helping them with their smooth study on campus.
