ABSTRACT

This paper presents directions for the types and methods of how literacy education should be conducted for global citizenship education in a large framework. Accordingly, based on the concept of literacy expanded in the digital age, three main suggestions were made on the educational direction of literacy as global citizenship education. First, literacy education for global citizenship education should be discourse-centered education. To this end, a specific program for literacy discourse must be developed. This is because the content and quality of education varies depending on which how discourse is formed. Once the discourse is formed, the expandability of the debate can also be brought that can be divided into various topics. Second, a literacy program for global citizenship education suitable for the digital age is needed. Space in the online world appears as an expanded concept incomparable to the concept of space in the real world. Various literacy education becomes an important instrumental space in understanding and solving global problems in global citizenship education. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a participatory digital literacy learning model or program. Third, it is necessary to continuously develop practical projects through literacy. This is because no matter how good a theory and purpose is, its less meaningful if it does not have the power to put it into practice. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a model that is more diverse than the present and can effectively carry out the project process. Global citizenship education faces practical problems, and when interests are intertwined, there are two approaches: a passive method and an active method. Nevertheless, literacy education is a significant method that encompasses both approaches to education.
