Epistolary literature named Chuck-Dock(尺牘) was a new kind of letter writing which had been popular among writers of those days. By showing their individual color, sound and mood, the writers of the Essays embodied various literary styles full of poetic sentiments. Shin Geong-ha was a representative writer of Chuck-Dock. He made comments on a literary style of Chuck-Dock critically and wrote many aesthetic works. He thought that the essence of Chuck-Dock is to disclose his inner mind in a short and lyric writing and have a heart-to-heart talk without reserve. The subjects of his works can be categorized into three quest for poetic sentiments, enlightenments from everyday experiences and meaningful issues. His epistolary literature works sometimes is similar to poems and sometimes is similar to travelogue or essay.
