Chosuneo Language Textbooks used in primary school in Japan’s Colonial Rule of Korea and HeungbooJeon

ABSTRACT

HeungbooJeon, one of Korean traditional stories, has steadily been published and appeared ranging from primary school textbooks during the Japanese colonization age, and Curriculum textbook after the liberation from the Japan’s Colonial Rule of Korea from the 1st National Korean Language to the 7th National Korean Language textbook for elementary schools. Among other things, this research thesis focused on Heungboo appearing in Chosun-uh-geup-Hanmoon-Dokbon for primary school(1913~1918) in primary school. Why did the Colonized government select HeungbooJeon as one story to appear in Chosuneo Language Textbook? The Teaching Materials of HeungbooJeon was pursued under the Japanese colonization age from the perspectives of colonization educational systems, which reconstructed the overall Chosun educational systems ranging from curriculum to teaching methods during the Japanese imperial colonization, on the basis of logics which was promoted in the colonization age. In other words, HeungbooJeon appearing in Chosuneo language textbooks was revised according to the Japanese folk tales for the purpose of establishing the fact that Japan and Chosun are close geographically and, justifying the assimilation policy that the two nations are similar in aspects of race, history and culture HeungbooJeono can be cited as the colonized education version, which was restructured according to the Japanese folk tales, in an attempt to build the discourse of same genealogy between Japan and Chosun.
