AB - This study tracks how Eyes of Dawn, the most popular Japanese military ‘comfort women’ narrative since the 1970s, has changed as it has been repeatedly reproduced by changing media since the 1970s, and how to interpret the meaning of the change. First, the novel Eyes of Dawn is a text that follows the narrative about the life before becoming a Japanese military comfort woman, the life in the Japanese military comfort stations, and the life after the war in chronological order. Using this novel as the original text, the drama Eyes of Dawn was later created in the 1990s. Director Yeo Soryong, who participated in the production process of the drama Eye of Dawn, which was popular in Korea, produced Eyes of Dawn in China. The webtoon Eyes of Dawn faithfully reproduces the original and drama. In addition, the musical Eyes of Dawn, produced at thesametime, was produced as a work that reinstates the history of 4.3 in thelimited time and space of stage performances.
