ABSTRACT

This thesis examined that the figure represented the typical appearance of intellectual society in the late Joseon Dynasty, focusing on Yeonjun, a character in the drama <My Dearest>. It epicted Qing figures such as Yonggoldae and Gakhwa not only as villains, but as figures with complex personalities. The relationship between them and Joseon figures was also multifaceted. However, in reality of the time, the world view based on the Hwayiron was dominant. It is rather consistent with the reality of the time that Yeonjun and Confucian scholars discuss the order of heaven and insist on resistance with the Qing Dynasty. In the drama, it was set as if keeping the loyalty to the Ming Dynasty was dark in the real situation, but keeping Daemyeong Euiri was the spirit of the times that penetrated the late Joseon Dynasty. It had the significance of respect for the universal civilization symbolized by the Ming, not loyalty to the country Ming. Although Yeonjun may beimprisoned, the fact that he did not go to the Qing Dynasty as an envoy means that he will not give up his desire for civilization. the Qing Dynasty exploited violenceto usurp civilization. He is such a frustrating and dignified character, he is willing to throw himself out when he is in a state crisis and shows concern for the people and the country. In this respect, the possibility of intellectuals observing the Neo-Confucian worldview of the time was reviewed positively
