ABSTRACT

This study presents a cultural internalization based lesson design for beginner level Korean language learners using the Story–Expression–Internalization pedagogical model. It argues that cultural education should move beyond transmitting factual knowledge to fostering experiential understanding and personal connection with the target culture. Two traditional Korean folktales centered on the theme of “help” were selected, as they embody the moral principle that good deeds are rewarded and bad deeds punished—values deeply rooted in Korean cultural consciousness. The study adapts these stories for beginners and proposes a lesson structure in which learners read, express emotions, and uncover cultural meanings through individualized activities. This approach enables simultaneous acquisition of language and culture, encouraging learners to relate Korean cultural values to their own experiences. Ultimately, the lesson design promotes the natural internalization of cultural attitudes, transforming language learning into an integrative, culturally immersive experience.
