ABSTRACT

Since 1970s, Korea(short for the Republic of Korea, the same as follows) civil society has initiated the promotion movement of filial piety. In July 2007, the world's first "Law of Reward for Filial Piety Behaviors" has been passed in the Korean Congress. The history causes of this movement are: first of all, the overflowing individualism has caused family crisis secondly, the aging of society has brought a providing problem for the aged finally, the family nuclearization has produced problems of filial piety education to young people. The main ways of this movement are: vigorously promoting the academic research of filial piety establishing filial piety foundations (consortium)to reward filial activities; spreading the filial piety by the media of school; volunteer service movement. The main features of this movement are: organized, practical, religious participatory and innovative for the concept of filial piety. The Legislation of Filial Piety in Korea mainly contents: firstly, the legislative intent and the definition of filial piety secondly, with the funding arrangements to encourage filial piety thirdly, the establishment of the Association of Filial Piety Culture Revitalization. The basic characteristics of this Legislation of Filial Piety are: it is a reward, administration and promotion law. Filial piety campaign in Korea and its legislation demonstrated that there is consciousness and carrying forward earlier to the issue of filial piety in Korea society it is an effective way to promote filial piety by both legislation and moral; filial piety promotion needs to mobilize the participation of civil forces.
