ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to offer basic data of possibly contributing to which the adolescents encourage HYO consciousness on modern HYO (filial piety), maintain sound body and mind, and proceed with making healthy life, by analyzing difference and correlation between HYO consciousness and mental health targeting middle-and-high school and university students. The result of research showed that there is no gender-based difference between HYO consciousness and mental health. Female students were indicated to have more negative mental health status than male students. In the difference by school level, both HYO consciousness and mental health were indicated to be partially higher level in high school students than middle-school and university students among sub-factors. In the analysis of correlation between HYO consciousness and mental health, the HYO((filial piety) of growth and development showed significant correlation with mental health and all sub-factors among sub-factors of HYO consciousness. The HYO(filial piety) of dutiful respect was indicated to have no significant correlation among other factors except hostility. Hence, seeing it from this perspective, the education, learning, and practice on modern HYO consciousness based on traditional HYO consciousness at modern home is expected to be likely to be greatly helpful for supplementing insufficient point of function and role within home and for adolescent's maintaining sound mental health and forming own identity.
