ABSTRACT

There is a reason for studying and analyzing Wuje among many funeral rites. It is the researcher's opinion that our ancestor has treated pains of the dead, bereaved families and friends by concluding funeral rites with the concept of happy events through eliciting concepts of tragic events and happy events from funeral rites that can be normally considered tragic events. In fact, bereaved families are experiencing simple funeral rites because of burial on the third day after death these days. Even 30 years ago, our society had formal and ceremonious funeral rites based on Confucian tradition. As a result, intended to elicit the concept of happy events from Wuje and sublimate funeral rites, tragic events, as happy events although Wuje is a funeral rite that belongs to tragic events. In fact, the traditional viewpoint considered from the whole period of mourning to Wuje and Jolgok tragic events, while Damje to Gilje were considered happy events. Originally Wuje is a memorial service to comfort and console the spirit of the dead person. Wuje includes Chowuje that is held on the day of a funeral ceremony, Jaewuje that is held secondly and Samwuje that is held last. In the current study, strongly insists that Wuje should be held by sublimating as the concept of happy events, not tragic events, in general cases of finishing mourning after Wuje. Especially, considering that funeral rites are artificial ceremonies made by human beings for more convenient and organized life, insisting on one opinion ·will not be desirable. The researcher sincerely hopes to console and comfort the lonely spirit of the dead and make the bereaved family peaceful by having Wuje with appropriate manners and sincere mind.
