ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to introduce the education methodology built on the integration of Hyo(filial) and multiple intelligence as a measure applicable to the character education for youth. This study presented the standpoint for application of Hyo principles to the character education in conjunction with existing Hyo education based on the understanding of humanity from the perspective of multiple intelligence and theory of educational method. The priority was given to exploration of integration of both multiple intelligence and Hyo education by narrowing down the scope to such multiple intelligence and Hyo education, given the uncertainty in the education methodology combining the multiple intelligence theory and character education. That implies the intention to strengthen the promotion and potentials of Hyo education through multiple intelligence theory and highlight the importance of Hyo education in character education through the prism of multiple intelligence theory. In other words, this involves the structure in which the importance of Hyo education can be explained from the standpoint of diversity in character education which is analogous to the diversity of multiple intelligence in relation to the understanding of humanity. For that, this study was structured as follows: First, the multiple intelligence theory was examined in conjunction with personality. Second, the contemporary Hyo and Hyo education were examined through systematic analysis and reviewed in the context of their relevance with character education. Third, by putting together both, interconnectivity of multiple intelligence and Hyo(character education) was analyzed and the value and direction of multiple intelligent Hyo education were presented. The results of this study suggested that the interpersonal relationship intelligence and individual internal intelligence among the multiple intelligence aspects were closely associated with Hyo education and that the integrated understanding of Hyo and multiple intelligence was vital for the character education targeting the youth rather than adults. Such structure of study shows that the Hyo education can be incorporated into the character education based on multiple intelligence, and particularly, would provide useful basis for building the methodology of character education for youth and developing the philosophy of education. Moreover, the results of this study may be also useful for recognizing the importance of interpersonal relationship intelligence and individual internal intelligence in the Hyo education which were elucidated herein, on which basis the Hyo education may be applied in multiple ways such as the teaching method and education material research.
