AB - In this paper, I research polysemy of filial duty in traditional Confucianism. As everyone knows, a important essence of Confucisnism is filial duty. Though there are various meanings of filial duty, especially I will study humanity, religiosity and life-theory of filial duty. In humanity of filial duty, I describe about moral and personal changes from human nature. In terms of religiosity, I tell the unity of heaven and human and the continuity from ancestors including parents to descendants, especially oneself. And about life-theory, I write humanity as human life based on filial duty. At once, I mention filial duty as self-sacrifice(殺身成仁) based on moral and life. And more I will describe adverse effects which is appeared, when filial duty is applicable historically and generally.
