ABSTRACT

This study aims to verify the mediating effects of self-esteem and adaptation to school life in the impacts of family support on multicultural adolescents’ satisfaction with their lives. Of the data of “Multicultural Adolescents Panel” implemented by the National Youth Policy Institute, this study analyzed the data surveyed with 1,260 adolescents in 2017. The analysis results are as follows. First, it turned out that family support had a positive impact on multicultural adolescents’ satisfaction with their lives. Second, it turned out that self-esteem had a partial mediation in the positive impact of family support on life satisfaction. It had a positive impact on life satisfaction through family support, and it also had a positive impact on life satisfaction through self-esteem. Third, it turned out that adaptation to school life did not mediate the positive impact of family support on life satisfaction. This study verified the relationships of family support with multicultural adolescents’ life satisfaction, self-esteem, and adaptation to school life. These results have significance in that they provide the baseline data on family support and the baseline data to increase multicultural adolescents’ satisfaction with their lives.
