ABSTRACT

Background: This research was initated to fulfill the need for a comprehensive quantitative analysis. Its aim is to generalize the level and nature of attitudes towards parents, thereby providing essential baseline data for developing policies related to Filial piety. Purpose: The aim is to examine the attitudes of adults residing in Seoul Special City regarding their parents. Methodology/Approach: The survey targeted 3,000 adults aged between 19 and 59 living in Seoul, with a 1.9% permissible margin of error. Findings/Conclusions: The study revealed several key insights. Firstly, adult residents in Seoul showed strong attitudes towards respecting, financially assisting, caring for, and pleasing their parents, while attitudes towards visiting and obeying parents were less pronounced. Secondly, women displayed a higher propensity for Filial piety towards parents compared to men. Thirdly, there was a noticeable difference in attitudes of respect, obedience, and visiting parents between those 39 years of age and under and those 40 years and older. Implications: This study is important as it sheds light on the prevailing attitudes of adults in Seoul towards their parents.
