ABSTRACT

This article was to review the projects afoot conducted by both the Korean government and the other groups so as to develop rural villages in Korea in terms of the population drain, malfunction, and the urgency of developing them. Based on the connection between farmers and urban people, this article suggested city related development strategy for rural villages through food. Farmers need food consumers for the sake of sustainable farming, urban people need farmers who supply food for their survival, and both farmers and urban people are members of food community. Highlighting these factors, this article indicated that the connection between farmers and urban people through safe and reliable food will bring about development of rural villages. This research revealed the three main benefits of development strategy: low costs in comparison with other development strategies; actual effect; benefits to both farmers and urban people. Finally, this article proposed several tasks with respect to the increased production of local food, the rising consumption of local food by urban people, and the extension of connection between farmers and urban people.
