ABSTRACT

The fields of literature and medical welfare have already shown almost complete agreement in the approach to dementia in the mid-2010s. The Korean dementia narratives have been studying the identity of dementia patients as a subject, and in the field of medical welfare, the transition to a person-centered care model was emphasized on the same perspective. This led to the establishment of its direction in the 4th Dementia Management Comprehensive Plan (2021-2025). However, the substantial connection between the two fields was not well established. This is because, unlike arts, literature has had clear limitations in existing medical welfare policies that have focused on treatment and economic support for patients and their families. However, in the new policy direction emphasizing the subjectivity of dementia patients and improving public consciousness, connection with the literature is important, and it is important to recognize this current situation in solving the social task of dementia. Therefore, it is necessary to seek specific methods such as systematic group research for multidisciplinary linkage of the two fields in future dementia policies such as the 5th Plan.
