ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to research the recognition that volunteer education instructors have about volunteer theory education. The analysis was attempted by using Q-methodology, which objectively analyzes a human being’s subjectivity. As a result, regarding the recognition types of volunteer educational contents, three factors were discovered in volunteer activity: 'sharing-emphasized type-self-realization’, ‘human respect type-problem-solving’, and ‘community formation-sharing emphasized’. Also, the common point in the three factors was a positive recognition about the need to include content on self-realization and self-development in the volunteer theory curriculum. The common point was opposed to the educational content of inducing the necessity of volunteer participation with an excessive emphasis on the unpaid characteristic and historical flow. These findings offer basic data for researchers into volunteer theory curriculum; the study recommends developing volunteer management manuals through grasping educational instructors' subjective recognition type in volunteer theory education.
