ABSTRACT

For China which wants to be a powerful state, diplomacy already became an important means to raise the national profit. China currently need "powerful nation diplomacy". One nation's diplomatic competence is deeply related to its national power, and at the diplomatic circumstance, the competence is totally up to the ability of diplomatic elite. China is one of the powerful nations that influences Korea peninsula. However, we barely know anything related to China diplomacy and China's diplomatic elites. Sometimes the background and tendency of China's head and deputy head diplomatic department are introduced through media but it does not show which relational structure China has. We must know composition of China diplomacy team in order to resolve diplomatic issue of East Asia and Korean peninsula. This thesis analyzes the relationships of China's diplomatic elites, who are legislating and practicing China's diplomatic policy. The thesis also compares and analyzes network of diplomatic elites in the period of Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping with Social Network Analysis(SNA) method. According to the results, at the period of Hu Jintao, the diplomatic elite network was homogeneous structure. In contrast, the diplomatic elite network of Xi Jinping period was with diplomats who has diverse background and expertise. This is the evidence that shows the control of China's Communist party over the diplomatic department has been reinforced in the period of Xi Jinping.
