AB - Goryeo tried to build sea-defence and Navy training. General Choi-young strived to lanch 2,000 war-shipes but he failed to. But Admiral Chung-ji and Choi-Musun succeed in reinforcing naval strength. The next task was sea-defence system all around coasts. But this task was transfered to Joseon-dynasty.
Making system of sea defence had a difficulty that war-shipes were dispersed to ports in all coasts. They made cooperating system with navy and army for case that more Japanse pirate attacked the minarity. If Japanse pirate invaded less Joseon garrison, the garrison hold the castle for arrival of relief. At this time, The war-ship made an important roles. Because, if no war-ship's support, Waegu(倭寇)’s strong army could bind garrison in castle, dispach teams for plunder.
Cooperating system with navy and army was needed for rapidly relief, because the nearest fort might be navy or army in the cause of geographical features.
However early sea-defence system had a fatal defect which most war- shipes were locateded in the inside for the coast for main cities. War-ship should move long distance for reaching the village in fire by pirates. Besides They could set sail for an half of day because of the tide.
In the ruling of King Sejong, The new location was deviced. The government moved war-shipes to the out-side of coast. island, and in deep sea. It made a possible to observe pirate-ship in movement, and elevated war-ship's moving range. This work was very difficult. The government should consider various conditions to build a navy-base, for example, distance between each base, accumlation of sand, wave, tide, rocks etc. The completaion of sea-defence system was a result of this long effort. This system became a foundation of Joseon sea-defence system.
