ABSTRACT

The main argument unti the present day is that the fortress in Dogi-dong was recycled by Baekje in the mid-to-late 4th century while advancing south after Goguryeo's capture of Hanseong. This article attempted to examine why Dogi-dong Fortress was built from the perspective of Baekje history, and the role and value of the fortress from the perspective of Baekje. The initial construction of Dogi-dong Fortress was aimed at securing and defending transportation routes. In the 28th year of King Geunchogo (373), the fortress was built to defend the area due to the migration of Doksan people to Silla. Dogi-dong Fortress served as a regional hub as it had residential and storage facilities around it as well as geographical advantages. Goguryeo also recycled the fortress because it served the function of a transportation hub and a base. In Baekje, Dogi-dong Fortress not only had an economic value as it was located in the surrounding plains with hilly areas but it also fulfilled defensive functions. storage facilities centered on Anseongcheon Stream and Osancheon Stream, said that this area was the center of logistics and distribution of Hanseong Baekje. And the excavation of iron around Dogidongsanseong Fortress indicates that this area was an important defense point. Dogi-dong Fortress served as a base equipped with fortress + residential + storage facilities as well fulfilling as a defense functions.
