AB - This article studies Zhang Zi-ping, the most popular “love stories” writer in the late twenties and early thirties. It points out that the popularity of Zhang Zi-ping among the young readers was in fact due to a modernity of his writing. Hence, his love stories provided the readers with sensational pleasure on one hand, and enabled them to participate in the criticism of the most fashonable social topics on the other.
Zhang Zi-ping’s love stories certainly have Modernity of novel. It is to be classified into two items. that is modernity of novel’s contents and modernity of novel’s formal. Let’s see modernity of novel’s contents. First，There is a spirit of modernity about Zhang Zi-ping’s love stories. Zhang Zi-ping expressed his modern opinion at his works. for example, contemporary love, respect for man’s life and dignity, consciousness of criticism, a rebellious spirit。Second，There is a great change in character sketch about Zhang Zi-ping’s love stories. Zhang Zi-ping described vividly general citizens, not a great man. Third，There is a character description and psychological description about Zhang Zi-ping’s love stories. The character of the hero is well described. Let’s see modernity of novel’s formal. First，Zhang Zi-ping’s love stories used mixing description. Second，Zhang Zi-ping’s love stories used different narration visual point. Third,ZhangZi-ping’slovestoriesusedseveralnewcreative techniques. Forexample, Romanticism, Naturalism, Modernism, and so on.
In conclusion，Modernity of Zhang Zi-ping’s love stories rendered great service to the literary profession.
