ABSTRACT

In the oracle bone age, the ‘Zhong(中)’ has been developed into a dynamic auxiliary word after a long process of grammaticalization. According to the research of this article, ‘Zhong(中)’ has already had the time characteristic in the spring and Autumn period and Warring States period. That’s more than 500 years ahead of Zhang (2007). In this process, metaphor tact plays a decisive role. During the spring and autumn and Warring States period, ‘zhong’ already had verb usage. This shows that ‘zhong’ has time characteristics at that time. The Qing Dynasty had already appeared ‘Zai(在) +V+Zhong(中)’ structure ‘在服中’ as the pre sentence information of consecutive sentences. This shows that the pre formation of the ‘Zai(在) +V+Zhong(中)’ structure in has already begun at that time. This period is the period when adverbs are formed, so this explanation is more feasible. In modern Chinese, ‘Zhong(中)’ has completed its grammaticalization path in two ways and has temporal features. One is ‘V₁+Lno(中)+V₂’→ ‘V₁+Lno(中), +V₂’→ ‘V₁+Dau(中)’ Process. The other one is ‘在+V+過程+中’→ ‘在+Mod+V+中’→ ‘在+Adv+V+中’→ ‘正在+V+中’→ ‘正+V+中’→ ‘V+中’ Process. Grammaticalization process grammaticalization, metaphor, absorption, elimination, entailment, reanalysis play a big role. ‘Zhong(中)’ is an orientation noun that can be translated in to Korean ‘~중에’, which has ‘Noun+auxiliary word’ features. ‘Zhong(中)’ having Continued characteristic and time characteristics, the equivalent of Korean ‘~는 중~’, has the progressive tense. ‘Zhong(中)’ is the dynamic continuous tense, the equivalent of Korean ‘~는 중~’, has the progressive tense. Therefore, the language of Korea and China is very different in tense.
