ABSTRACT

This article reviewed the production date of the lending library and the relationship between the lending library and the Gyeongpan edition, by comparing the earliest 89-sheet and Gyeongpan 30-sheet, focusing on Jojongeop, Jeongwoorak edition, and Dongyangmungo edition, which are the lending library of <Hong Gildong-jeon>. As a result, it was confirmed that the Jojongeop edition was transcribed and distributed in 1850, Jeongwoorak edition in 1876, and Dongyangmungo edition in 1901, and that the earlier version contained similar content to the original. As the study on the lending library began in earnest, it was argued that the lending library was the root of the Gyeongpan edition, but in the case of <Hong Gildong-jeon>, the lending library Dongyangmungo edition was found to be influenced by Gyeongpan 30-sheet. It was also revealed that it is not appropriate to discuss the general lending library focusing on such Dongyangmungo edition as it is a later lending library that is very different from the contents of the JoJongeoop and JungWoorak edition close to the original. In conclusion, the study on the old novels for lending should be conducted with awareness of the risk of simply grouping and discussing these different versions which have the media characteristics of the lending library. It should go on by reviewing the entire text of the lending library that existed in each work, and through this, the relationship between the Gyeongpan edition should be revealed.
