ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to compare and study the ecological awareness shown in 「Won-Buddhism Newspaper」 and 「Hwagwang Newspaper」. This study focuses not on the theory of the ecological ideas of the two religions through philological analysis, but on the religious phenomenological consideration of the ecological status in the digital archives of the 「Won Buddhism Newspaper」 and 「Hwagwang Newspaper」. The research methodology compares and analyzes the ecological perception of the two religions by phenomenally grasping ecological indicators in Won Buddhism's 「Won Buddhism Newspaper」 and Korea SGI's 「Hwagwang Newspaper」 in the face of the threat of human survival due to global environmental destruction. In addition, it discovers how much the two newspapers embrace the ecological friendliness of the religious sects in terms of corresponding or contrary to the religious ideology of the two ecologically-oriented religious sects. To this end, this paper suspends quantitative indicators or normative value judgments in the qualitative dimension of the two newspapers, and focuses on identifying the current state of ecological awareness of the two newspapers by analyzing and describing them as they are.
