ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to analyze the dual mediating roles of growth mindset and gratitude disposition in the relationship between depression and happiness among middle school students. The participants were 435 middle school students from City S, selected through convenience sampling. Data were analyzed using SPSS PC+ Win. 25.0 and the SPSS PROCESS macro. The statistical methods applied included frequency analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and dual mediation effect analysis. The results of the study were as follows: First, depression showed a significant negative correlation with growth mindset, gratitude, and happiness. Among these, the strongest correlation was between depression and happiness. Second, while depression directly influenced happiness, it also indirectly affected happiness through growth mindset and gratitude. It was confirmed that enhancing growth mindset and gratitude could protect happiness in situations where depression negatively impacts it. Based on the findings, strategies to improve happiness through the utilization of growth mindset and gratitude in relation to depression among middle school students were suggested.
