ABSTRACT

This study aims to examine the impact of support provided through private organization managers on the lives of youth preparing for independent living, and to offer foundational data to support their settlement into local communities. The study focused on managers of private organizations who support independent living youth, conducting both individual and group interviews. A qualitative research method was employed, using interview analysis. The study demonstrates the following results. First, the support provided to independent living youth involves psychological and emotional support, assistance with daily life and housing, and career and employment support. Second, the advantage of such support is the possibility of conveying a “parental heart” to youth who lack parental experience. However, a disadvantage was that only a small number of managers were actively involved in support activities due to the youth’s concerns about identity exposure. Third, independent living youth who fostered a sense of being cared for by continued support from private organizations, showed positive changes in life such as consideration for others and adherence to social norms. These results imply that the sustained support of private organizations plays a significant role in the successful social integration of independent living youth and has a prominent impact on various aspects of their lives.
