ABSTRACT

With the acceleration of global digital transformation, Chinese manufacturing enterprises are undergoing unprecedented structural changes. Digital transformation, as a key path to break through productivity growth bottlenecks, has attracted widespread attention from both academia and industry. Against this backdrop, this study aims to explore the impact of digital transformation on the total factor productivity (TFP) of Chinese listed manufacturing enterprises. By analyzing data from 38,181 manufacturing companies listed on the A-share market between 2011 and 2024, we construct a digital transformation index system for enterprises and conduct an in-depth empirical analysis of the positive correlation between digital transformation and TFP. Based on the empirical model, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and robustness tests are performed. The results show that digital transformation has a significant effect on improving enterprise TFP; the higher the degree of digital transformation, the higher the level of TFP. Finally, to promote digital transformation and TFP growth in Chinese manufacturing, we propose a systematic advancement framework from the dimensions of enterprises, industries, and policies, forming a multi-party collaborative development pattern.
