ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine the preliminary effects of a group music therapy program designed to reduce rule‑breaking and aggressive behaviors—key externalizing behavior problems—among children with attention‑deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and to provide foundational data for subsequent full‑scale program development. Participants were eight elementary school children from the Seoul Capital Area, selected through a preliminary needs assessment. Using a single‑group pretest–posttest design, changes in externalizing behavior were assessed with the Teacher’s Report Form (TRF) Externalizing scale by comparing pre‑ and post‑intervention scores on the Rule‑Breaking Behavior and Aggressive Behavior subscales. Results indicated that (first) some participants showed changes in externalizing problem scores, and (second) the group music therapy program may contribute to behavioral improvement in children with ADHD. These preliminary findings suggest that music therapy can be utilized as an intervention to support behavioral regulation and social adaptation in this population. Future research should strengthen the reliability and validity of effect estimates through objective behavioral observations, long‑term follow‑up, and the inclusion of control groups.
