ABSTRACT

This study aimed to identify differences in key psychological variables among high school Taekwondo athletes according to demographic characteristics (gender, athletic career, and award experience). A t-test and ANOVA were conducted on 332 athletes nationwide, revealing distinct group differences. First, regarding gender, male athletes demonstrated significantly higher levels than female athletes across a range of factors, including participation motivation (skill development, enjoyment, health, and external recognition), achievement goal orientation (task and ego), and achievement behavior (t=3.744, p<.001). Second, athletic career had a limited impact, affecting only some motivational factors such as amotivation (F=5.205, p<.01). In contrast, award experience was the most critical variable distinguishing the athletes' psychological profiles, with experienced athletes recording remarkably higher scores in achievement behavior (t=8.389, p<.001) and task goal orientation. This study is significant in providing foundational data for establishing customized coaching strategies that consider the individual characteristics of athletes.
